BAR-ILAN UNIVERSITY
TOWARDS A RENAISSANCE IN JEWISH EDUCATION
WHAT IS THE
LOOKSTEIN CENTER?

Named in honor of the late Rabbi Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, former Chancellor of Bar-Ilan University, Founder of the Ramaz School, and spiritual leader of Kehillat Jeshrun in New York City, The Lookstein Center is dedicated to raising Jewish educational standards around the globe.

Supporting hundreds of Jewish schools across the world and impacting on the lives of thousands of educators and hundreds of thousands of students each year, The Lookstein Center continues, as it has since its inception in 1978, to build towards a Jewish educational renaissance, ensuring that the next generation of Jews are connected, educated, and engaged.

INSPIRING
JEWISH STUDENTS

The Lookstein Virtual Jewish Academy
More than 5000 students study annually in The Lookstein Center’s online schools for Jewish studies, exploring Jewish texts, ideas, and history. Lookstein Virtual goes where the need is, whether that be in Jewish day schools, Jewish communities, or Jewish families, to add depth, variety, and fun to Jewish learning.

Creating Curricular Material
Students from hundreds of Jewish schools in North America, as as well as in Africa, Australia, Europe, and South America, are inspired every day by exceptional curricular materials created by The Lookstein Center that forge a love of Jewish life, learning, and values.

EMPOWERING
JEWISH EDUCATORS
Teacher Training
The Lookstein Center offers a broad range of teacher training opportunities with the goal of reaching as many teachers as possible and providing them an opportunity to hone their skills and become leaders in their field. The Center’s training opportunities ensure that Jewish studies teachers are armed with requisite foundational knowledge, are up to date with the latest educational research, and are skilled in using critical tools for the 21st Century.

Community of Educators
The Lookstein Center has a long tradition serving as a hub where Jewish educators can find community, share best practices, and learn and think together. To this end, the Center facilitates digital networks, publishes a quarterly journal, and maintains a series of websites with free lesson plans and resources. More than ten thousand Jewish educators around the world use Lookstein-created material each month, either alone or as part of groups, ultimately benefitting hundreds of thousands of Jewish students worldwide.
